Led by Bryan Ferry, and also notably featuring Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera, Roxy Music were a key band to both art-rock and glam-rock styles.

Roxy Music burst into British consciousness with a memorable performance of debut single "Virginia Plain" on Top Of The Pops in 1972. It reached No.4 in the charts and helped their self-titled debut album climb to No.10. Second album For Your Pleasure (1973) wasn't hugely appreciated at the time, but has since been recognised as one of the best rock albums of the decade.

Soon afterwards, the band dynamic changed when Eno decided to leave, meaning the other band members began to help Ferry with songwriting.Stranded (1973) and Country Life (1974) continued their success, both being critically acclaimed and very popular in Europe, although the band struggled for recognition in America. Fifth album Siren (1975) contained their biggest ever US hit, "Love Is the Drug", which only just breached the Top 30. After a short hiatus a new line-up of the band reconvened for Manifesto (1979) and Flesh and Blood (1980), but both albums were criticised for being bland. Avalon (1982) was of a similar style but more successful, receiving warm reviews from the press, staying in the British charts for over a year, and even going platinum in America. Roxy Music split in 1983 as Bryan Ferry pursued his solo career.

In 2001, Roxy Music reformed as a touring band again, without Eno. However, he admitted in 2005 that he had contributed new tracks to a forthcoming ninth Roxy Music album, which is due for release in 2008.
