Overview Edit

29 is Ryan Adams' eighth official album, and his third album released in 2005 (although the preceding two were credited to Ryan Adams and The Cardinals). The album was produced by Ethan Johns, who also produced Heartbreaker and Gold. Recorded without (and in fact, prior to) the country-rock sound of the Cardinals, this album's sonic and emotional predecessor is 2003's Love Is Hell. The album's cover art was drawn by Adams.

The album has sold 81,000 copies in the United States and 153,000 worldwide. In November 2009, the album was number 54 on a list of 'The 100 best pop albums of the Noughties' by The Times Music critics.

Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights were pretty clearly country records, both cut with his new (and, it turns out, evolving) band the Cardinals. Here we get an Adams solo record, absent the band vibe and the country touches that flavor the two previous rele…

3 stars Rough around the Edges, but poised for big things...
The other night I heard a song from Ryan Adams's latest disc "29" and was mesmerized and struck by how similar his voice and arrangement of the song are to beloved (and sadly deceased) Jeff Buckley. I told my bro., (who had lent me his XM radio where I heard this music) that I must purchase this disc! So I did, and, with a few exceptions, this guy has the chops and the potential to produce a really good album. Nightbirds and a few others stand out. His vocals are quite haunting and he can rock a…
