Salt-N-Pepa were a New York hip-hop trio, consisting of Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa) and Deidra 'Dee Dee' Roper (DJ Spinderella). They have sold over 27 million albums and were the first all-women group to win the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, for "None of Your Business".
Their debut album, 1986's Hot, Cool and Vicious was propelled to success with a remix of the track "Push It". The single provided the band with their first hit, subsequently going platinum, receiving a Grammy nomination and pushing album sales to platinum status.
The band had another best seller in their third album, Blacks' Magic promoted by the single "Lets talk about Sex". Salt-N-Pepa's greatest success would come from their fourth album Very Necessary released in 1993. The album went four times platinum and produced the singles "Shoop, What a Man" and "None of Your Business".
Salt-N-Pepa split in 2002, with both Salt and Pepa pursuing acting and solo careers.
