Santigold Producing "Idols" Devo
Jan, 10 2010
Philadelphia-born Santi White emerged last year with one of the coolest debut albums in years, a self-titled release under the name Santogold. Now re-christened Santigold for legal reasons, she's moving behind the mixing desk to produce new material for surreal new wave heroes Devo. "It was amazing," she told Paste, "they're just, like, my band idols. Them and The Smiths. But Devo, I made them pull out the red hats and pose for a picture." Before her solo debut, Santi worked in A&R with Epic Records, wrote with singer Res and sang in a punk band, Stiffed. But her production skills were not utilized on her own record, which used a team of beatmakers such as Diplo, Switch and Freq Nasty. "I am starting my new record right now," she added," and I'm really excited about it because I've been on the road for three years - literally, three years - and it's been a lot. This will be a creative year for me." No word yet on when the Devo material might appear, but keep an eye out for Santigold's sophomore.
