DJ, producer and remixer Sasha was born Alexander Coe in Wales in 1970. He cut his DJ teeth playing acid house at illegal raves, moving on to regular spots at the Haçienda Club in Manchester. He eventually moved on to Renaissance, one of the superclubs at the time, where he teamed up with fellow DJ Jon Digweed. Together, they would release the triple-disc mix album Renaissance, which popularised the dance mix album in the UK. He worked with BT on the Ima album, a prototype progressive album which set high standards for following artists.
In addition to remix work he has released his own tracks, including the Xpander EP which is regarded as a classic of progressive trance. In 2004 Van Helden received a Grammy nomination for his remix of "Watching Cars Go By" by Felix da Housecat.
