Savage Garden was an Australian pop duo, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, formed in 1994.
They started work on their debut album, releasing "I Want You" in 1996 which whetted the Australian appetite for their music. The single was released in the US in 1997 where it rose to No.4, whereupon it was followed by the second single "Truly Madly Deeply" and reached the top of the charts. Further single releases followed, all of them meeting with a similar measure of success. Given their increasing profile at home and abroad, it was little surprise when the debut album Savage Garden reached the top of the charts in their native Australia and No.3 in the US Billboard charts upon its release. The album would go on to be certified twelve times platinum in Australia, six times platinum in the US and double platinum in the UK.
Their second album Affirmation was released in 1999 and contained the huge hit "I Knew I Loved You". Within a month it was platinum in the US but no further albums were forthcoming as the duo split in 2001, with Hayes going on to achieve success in a solo career with the albums Spin (2002) and The Tension and the Spark (2004).
