Secret Garden had been together for a year when in 1995 they won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway with "Nocturne". It was Norwegian pianist Rolf Løvland’s second Eurovision winner, having succeeded in 1985 with "La Det Swinge".
The success of the winning song meant that the public were receptive to the release of the debut album and Songs from a Secret Garden (1995) became a significant hit around the world. The album achieved further prominence when Barbra Streisand adapted and released one of the songs, "Heartstrings".
Subsequent albums fared well, with the compilation album Dreamcatcher (2001) and Once in a Red Moon (2002) reaching the Billboard 100. "You Raise Me Up" (from Once in a Red Moon) has since been covered by many other artists including, most notably, Westlife and Josh Groban.
