Serj's Broadening Horizons
Jan, 31 2010
System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian dashed hopes for a SOAD reunion, telling Billboard “We're in touch. We talk. We call it an indefinite hiatus, and that's how we still look at it. Nothing's really changed.” But as a consolation prize, he’s offering fans a re-interpretation of his own 2007 debut solo release, Elect The Dead.
At the time, Elect the Dead appeared to mollify many of the fans devastated by the 2006 announcement of SOAD’s indefinite break. Now, three years later, there’s still no new material from Serj. Instead he’s found time to add a symphonic overhaul to the metal infrastructure of his old album, thanks to the input of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
For those who insist upon holding out for an album of new material, Serj is working on a follow-up of jazz-fusion, which may not be quite what most fans were hoping for. There’s still no release date for that, but if symphonic reworkings are more to your taste, Elect the Dead Symphony will be released on March 10.
