Overview Edit

Next is the fifth studio album by alternative metal band Sevendust, released a little over two years after their previous album, Seasons.

This is the first album by Sevendust with guitarist Sonny Mayo, who replaced Clint Lowery in December 2004. This is also the first and only album release through Winedark Records. The band was able to make its own imprint, 7Bros. Records, which, along with the band, gained freedom from Winedark Records in April 2006.

The album was self-produced and made while the band had no record label, so they had to use their own money to fund it.

Despite mostly positive reviews and a completely sold out headlining tour, the album failed to sell as well as its predecessors, which all were certified gold. This was mainly due to the lack of good promotion for the album by the record label, as there were many fans who did not even know Sevendust had new music out at the time.

The first official single, "Ugly", had a fair amount of radio play and was accompanied by a music video. "Failure" was released as the second single, followed by "Pieces," which was released as the third official single.

Morgan Rose said that he rushed the writing of Next because of rumours of Sevendust ending. He felt that since Clint Lowery was important he needed to pick up the slack for Sevendust.

5 stars Sevendust Deliver Another Exceptional Album, As Expected...
I love the fall. It's a time of change. Summer is over, all the obnoxious kids are back in school, the streets are empty, the weather is milder and more comfortable. All of these things make autumn my favorite season. One other reason to appreciate this time of year is Sevendust. Every fall (well, every other fall) I always can look forward to a new Sevendust release. Like clockwork, since their 1997 debut, the boys have never let us down. Every other year, releasing an incredible, original albu…

3 stars Hopefully this is just getting the kinks out...
As a preview of what is to come: This album is not a bad one. It IS however a bad example of Sevendust's musicianship, and if you are just getting introduced to this band, a better place to start would probably be their self-titled album for a heavier introduction or "Seasons" for a more mainstream but still excellent album. Now on to "Next"...

Walking into the record store to buy "Next" on October 11th was absolutely nerve-wracking. With all of the factors building up against Sevendust prior t…
