Leonel García and Noel Schajris are the Latin pop balladeers Sin Bandera.
The pair of musician/composer/songwriters got together in 2000, with Schajris turning his back on a solo career, during which he released one album. The pair took the name Sin Bandera, which means ‘without a flag’, to reflect their different nationalities (García is Mexican and Schajris Argentinian) and their ‘one world’ attitude.
They got their big break with their debut single, “Entra en mi Vida”, which was picked as the theme tune to a popular Mexican mini-series. This helped prepare the ground for their first album. Their self-titled debut became a hit in most of the Latin markets, and in addition to the million-plus copies sold, earned the duo awards from both the Grammys and the Latin Grammys.
They were quick to capitilise on their success, and the follow-up did better again. A tour with Latin superstar Alejandro Sanz helped to promote their cause all the more. Further well chosen collaborations, including Laura Pausini, helped take their follow-up to the next level. The Mañana album gave them their first Top 5 in the Top Latin Album charts and crossover success with a position in the Billboard 200. That mainstream success has eluded them for their two most recent albums. Pasado is an album of cover versions of international tracks from the 70s and 80s, while Hasta Ahora is a compilation of their hits so far.
