Overview Edit

Slipknot is the debut album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. It was released on June 29, 1999 through Roadrunner Records, after a demo containing a few of the songs had been released in 1998, and was reissued in December 1999 with a slightly altered track listing and mastering, as a result of lawsuit. It was the first release by the band to be produced by Ross Robinson, who sought to refine Slipknot's sound rather than alter the group's musical direction.

The album spans many genres, but is generally noted for its extensive percussion and overall heavy sound. Slipknot was well received by fans and critics alike and was responsible for bringing Slipknot a large increase in popularity. The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200, and has gone on to become certified double platinum in the United States, making it the band's best selling album.

5 stars Aggresive but real
Slipknot is, well, they are real. These 9 guys from Iowa are as scarry or as real as they can get. I don't mean their disturbingly creepy/cool masks, I mean their music. The lyrics that the absolutely amazing vocalist Corey Taylor('8' as his band ID suggests) sings out from behind that mask only make sense in this truly diluted world. With every single word the listener can hear his pain. In 'Scissors' he goes into a sort of trance of insanity where he seems to cry and laugh maniacly at the same…

2 stars An Update.
This used to be a 5-star review, and I used to really love this band. No, I didn't listen to them because of all the "angst" and "image" everyone complains about. I used to listen to them because I like the music. I'll give them that. This band was kind of like a gateway for me. When I first heard this cd and Iowa, I thought they were way too heavy for me. But I grew to like them. And then, I started browsing this site for other heavy bands. Then I discovered bands like Opeth, In Flames, Morbid …
