This album gets a lot of bad press, let's be honest. Their first since 1986's "Through the Barricades" and what would be their last. The first single to be lifted from it (in fact, released prior to the album by quite some time) was the AWESOME "Raw" which got loads of airplay, great reviews, but was not the monster hit that it was predicted to be and should have been. Unfortunately, this was a sign of things to come for the album itself. "Be Free With Your Love", a wonderful latino/hispanic styled summer track followed in similar style in the late summer of 1989, and the last 2 singles "Crashed Into Love" and "Empty Spaces" (a gorgeous ballad every inch as classic as "True") took them into the 1990's - and bombed. Obviously, the game was up. However, the album is a very well written & produced 1989 take on the Spandau sound which is nestled somewhere between the sound of the "True" and "Parade" albums in a more up to date late 80's style. The problem is this.......IF you are a new Spandau fan, this album will not convert you. This is purely an item for somebody who at the very least is familiar with the band's more popular chart offerings. However, "Be Free With Your Love", "Raw", "Motivator", and "Windy Town" are all classic Spandau just as much as any song from "True" or "Parade" that you hear so much on the "old gold" type radio stations.Buy it, listen to it, appreciate Tony's voice and the remarkable songwriting of (bar 1 track, penned by Steve Norman) Gary Kemp.......I promise you that after a few spins in your CD player you will love it!
