Squeeze is a British band formed in 1974. The current line-up consists of founder members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook with John Bentley, Stephen Large and Simon Hanson.
The original members of the band were Difford, Tilbrook, Jools Holland and Paul Gunn, but by the release of their first album, Squeeze, in 1978, they had added Harry Kakoulli on bass and Gunn had been replaced by Gilson Lavis. This marked the first of several line-up changes outside of the main writing combo of Difford and Tilbrook.
The next album for the band was 1979's Cool for Cats which was very successful for them, spawning four hit singles, "Slap and Tickle", "Up the Junction" "Goodbye Girl" and "Cool for Cats". 1980's Argybargy was their next release but their next album was one of their best known, East Side Story. Sweets From A Stranger was released in 1982 and was the last album before inner tensions spilt the band for the first time.
During the spilt Difford and Tilbrook continued to work together, releasing the self titled album under the name Difford & Tilbrook. The band reformed in 1985, but the membership of the band was tumultuous; at times the band consisted of Difford and Tilbrook and a series of session muscians. Nonetheless they released seven further albums before splitting up again in 1999. The split lasted for eight years, but in 2007 the band reformed and started to gig again, in support of the re-release of their back catalogue and a 'best of' album Essential Squeeze (2007).
