Biography

Edit

Status Quo; the English rock band who mastered three chords and stopped at that. There was no need to expand their repertoire, the fans love what they do and have never asked for more than their trademark boogie line. Though they are often lampooned, their material has been adopted by notable peers including Ozzy Osbourne and legendary DJ John Peel.

Two original members form the bedrock of the band, Francis Rossi (vocals/guitar) and Rick Parfitt (guitar). They met in the early 1960s and by 1966 had signed a 5 year deal with Piccadilly Records while still called The Spectres. They didn't have their first hit until 1968, by which time they had changed their name and their sound - "Pictures of Matchstick Men" was pure pop psychedelia, miles away from the riffage of future years.

Their first two albums failed to make a big impact, so they changed their style again, adopting the rock that led them to such success in their homeland. Piledriver hit the spot which the earlier albums failed to reach. This, and subsequent albums set the blueprint for the Quo and the 60+ hit singles rolled in including, "Paper Plane", "Caroline", "Down Down" "Whatever You Want" and "Rockin' All Over the World".

By the mid 1990s they had weathered a messy lawsuit with fellow founding member Alan Lancaster, the inevitable line-up changes and Parfitt's heart surgery. They had seen tremendous success but their star was beginning to fade. Nonetheless, they continue to release albums and tour to the present day, maintained by the affection of their diehard fans, of which there continue to be a great many.

Status Quo

Nov, 28 2008

Francis Rossi (pictured, right), is one of the leading men in British band Status Quo, and the grateful recipient of the hospitality of Dover, England for the last year – or is he? Awe-struck residents treated the rock star to a year of luxury, with lavish dinners, beauty contest judging, and regular trips in the Mayor’s limo, only to discover he was in fact a con-man after he failed to turn up for his 'set' at the local music festival. Although the fake Rossi couldn’t play the guitar, called himself ‘Graham’ and looked nothing like the slim-built, pony-tailed rocker, the townspeople failed to spot the imposter. The real Rossi, currently featuring with Status Quo on a new Scooter mash-up "Jump That Rock," took the news in his stride, saying “I'd love to know who he is – I want him to come to our next gig!”
