Biography

Edit

Steely Dan, originally a jazz-rock outfit, eventually morphed into a jazz-funk band based around the partnership of Walter Becker (guitar, bass) and Donald Fagen (singer, songwriter, pianist). “Reelin’ in the Years”, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Do It Again” are among their best known hits.

Steely Dan were known for their intelligent and acerbic lyrics and complex jazz-infused harmonies and song structures. They saw the bulk of their fame and success in the 70s, with the release of several highly acclaimed albums including Can't Buy a Thrill (1971), Pretzel Logic (1974) and Aja (1977). They disbanded in 1981 but reformed in 1993, touring and releasing a live album, but it was 2000's Two Against Nature that saw Steely Dan return to form; it went on to win the 2001 Grammy for Album of the Year, beating Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP. They then released Everything Must Go in 2003, and recently Becker stated that a new album would be out in the summer of 2008, tentatively called Suffice it to Say....
