Biography

Edit

Steve Albini first came to public attention in his band Big Black that gained a large following for their uncompromising approach to guitar, drums and bass, with the difference being that the drummer was a machine. When this group finally imploded he formed the even more controversial, and short lived, Rapeman. They were attacked by feminist groups who misunderstood the reason for the name, and so the group did not last. Steve went on to form Shellac, together with two other engineers Bob Weston and Todd Trainer. They are still recording and playing together, while Steve also continues to be a sought after engineer and producer, valued for the clarity he brings to the sound of bands in the studio.

Musicians’ Food Blogs – Mmmm, Tasty!

May, 13 2011

Steve Albini, best known as music producer and engineer for some of the most progressive names in rock ‘n’ roll (Nirvana, The Stooges, the Pixies, PJ Harvey, and a raft of others), has started a truly inspiring Italian-inspired cooking blog. That’s not really all that uncommon these days as it seems everyone and their mother (including mine) has a blog. Blogs have allowed us to express ourselves in a super niche-y way. We can delve deep into complete strangers’ hobbies, opinions, and desires. Everyday Joe has become The Media as the internet continues to level the playing field in almost every industry. While Albini is a whiz-kid behind the mixing boards, it turns out he’s not bad in the kitchen either. His technique descriptions make the complex seem simple, and the flavor play-by-play is as marvelous as it appears systematic. This description of Bulger Peanut Kimchee Spring Rolls may sound like a stoner’s delight until you note the careful consideration of flavor balance and textural nuances that went into them. Certainly Albini isn’t the only one out there with a passion for music and food! Here is an awesome video blog belonging to the Vegan Black Metal Chef. Watch as he prepares Pad Thai. (Yes, this really exists.) Do you know of other musician’s food blogs? Let us know by posting on our Facebook page. -Court
