Get Ready For System
Jan, 14 2010
Speculation is mounting that the much missed metallers System Of A Down are about to reunite. The band called a hiatus in 2006, not long after the release of Hypnotize and Mezmerize, two final albums which were considered by many to be the band’s zenith.
The break allowed the individual members time to explore their own side projects. In addition to several collaborative projects, talented multi-instrumentalist and singer Serj Tankian offered bereft SOAD fans a solo album, Elect The Dead, and he is now said to be working on an “orchestral, jazzy” follow-up. Shavo Odadjian also kept himself busy with numerous musical and artistic projects, including Achozen, a genre-shifting collaboration with Wu-Tang leader RZA. Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan stuck together and worked as Scars On Broadway, releasing an eponymous debut which gained kudos in the eyes of many critics.
All this extra-SOAD activity fuelled the belief that “hiatus” actually meant “split,” but hopes were raised following a six-word tweet from Shavo on January 11: “Are u guys ready for System?” Judging by the media buzz generated by that innocuous sentence, the answer is “yes, definitely ready!”
