Overview Edit

Ok is the debut release of tabla player and music producer Talvin Singh, and it was nine months in the making. The title was chosen because of the universality of the word OK, which can be understood almost anywhere in the world. It is mostly a reinterpretation of Indian classical music with flute, sitar, and tabla.

The album won him the Mercury Music Prize for 1999.

4 stars great grooves
Talvin Singh is a master at his craft, and it's evident on O.K. Elegant tabla rhythms mix superbly with electronic music to create a sublime ambient sound from the Asian underground. If you like ambient music, or Eastern-influenced electronica, you won't be sorry you bought this album.

3 stars good aural wallpaper
OK is a really nice mix of drum 'n' bass, techno, jazz, spoken word, and traditional Indian sounds. I like having it on while working, driving, messing about online, or whatnot; It's upbeat, and keeps the intuitive/artistic part of my brain occupied, but it's not at all intrusive. Fun to listen to.
