Biography

Edit

The Academy Is... are an indie band from Chicago, formed in 2002 by vocalist William Beckett and guitarist Michael Carden, joined by bassist Adam T. Siska, guitarist Adrian LaTrace Jr. and drummer Mike Delprincipe. The band cite Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd amongst their influences.

They released their debut album Almost Here in 2005, promoting it by touring with other indie mates Plain White T's and June. The album was a commercial and critical success, making the Top 30 of Billboard Heatseakers and the indie albums charts. After the release of the album, the bands' line-up changed with Tom Conrad replacing Adrian LaTrace Jr. and Andy Mrotek replacing Mike Delprincipe.

In 2006 the band were included on two film soundtrack albums, "Superman" was on the Sound of Superman and "Black Mamba" was on Snakes on a Plane.

There were yet more line-up changes with Michael Guy Chislett replacing Tom Conrad prior to the release of 2007's Santi album. The album sold over 30,000 copies in its first week of release and went in to the top 40 of the Billboard chart.
