The Ataris are an American pop punk band formed in 1995. The current members are founder Kristopher Roe, John Collura, Paul Carabello, Angus Cooke, Bob Hoag, Sean Hansen and Shane Chickeles.
A demo found its way to Kung Fu Records and that was the basis on which they were signed. Anywhere but Here was the 1997 result. In those early days a fluctuating line-up almost resulted in the death of the band but though membership problems continued to dog them, the band began to find its audience as a result of constant touring.
Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits was released in 1999, which they followed with End is Forever in 2001. After this they changed label, signing with Columbia and released So Long, Astoria in 2003. This was a slicker effort than their previous releases and resulted in a more mainstream audience. Unfortunately, it was at this point in their career that the band decided to separate; the culmination of artistic differences and financial pressures.
The break-up wasn't permanent. By 2007, after record label shenanigans, the band finally released the follow up album, Welcome The Night, and began touring to support it in the US and Europe.
