The Big Bopper

Jan, 8 2009

In July last year, fans of music eclectica were afforded the rare opportunity to purchase their own peculiar slice of music history when James Brown miscellany, including a disco ball and hair rollers, were put up for auction. Now there’s another chance to purchase a truly unusual piece of memorabilia as the coffin of the Big Bopper goes on sale. The casket had been the Bopper’s final resting place since his death on “the day the music died”, in the same plane crash as Buddy Holly and Richie Valens 48 years ago. The son of the late, great rock n’ roller has announced plans to sell his father's casket, possibly on eBay, as part of plans to move his father to a more visible location. Additionally, his unconventional fundraiser will afford him the opportunity to use the money raised by the auction to produce a musical about his famous father.
