Sibling Celtic-pop, folk-rock band The Corrs formed in 1991 to audition for the Irish-rock based film The Commitments. Andrea Corr (lead vocals, tin whistle), Sharon Corr (violin, backing vocals), Caroline Corr (drums, bodhrán, backing vocals) and brother Jim Corr (guitar, keyboards/piano backing vocals) are originally from Dundalk, Ireland, and grew-up surrounded by the music of their parents who played in various local bands and eventually formed their own traditional Irish folk band, Sound Affair.
The Corrs released their first album, Forgiven, Not Forgotten, in late 1995 to mixed success, being most popular in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK and Canada. In 1997 they released their follow-up album Talking on Corners, which proved to be their breakthrough album, producing several Top Ten hits and reaching the top spot in the album charts in the UK, Ireland and Australia. Their next two releases, 2000's In Blue and 2004's Borrowed Heaven were also successes and helped to increase The Corrs fanbase. In Blue eventually went platinum and saw a much greater success for the band in the US. They preformed at the Live 8 concert in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2005 and were joined by Bono on one song. The Corrs are currently on hiatus raising families and, in the case of Andrea Corr, concentrating on solo projects and her acting career.
