5 stars Forget Britpop -- get this
In a year, for me at least, where all the major "indie" releases have been disappointments (from Wilco to Bjork) this hits it out of the park on nearly every song.

It has a kind of contsant nervous churn that sounds familiar (early REM, Interpol, Clinic) but feels new, if that makes any sense. The standouts are the fast/slow "Mary" and (single?) "First Love."

Lousy, affected vocals, and not a decent melody on the whole disc (the darting guitars carry most of the harmonic content, while singer Orlando Weeks just yelps within a four-note range). Try "Mary," if you must pick a track. Sure, the music has energy and is produced with the right degree of boozy grit, but these are the only selling points. Loo…
