The New Pornographers are a super-group from Vancouver, Canada, who have achieved critical acclaim in the indie-rock press over the course of four albums. Several members are also successful solo artists or members of other bands.
Led by songwriter Carl Newman (known as the solo artist A.C. Newman), other members of the band include Neko Case, Dan Bejar (of Destroyer and Swan Lake) and Kathryn Calder (of Immaculate Machine). Their debut album Mass Romantic (2000) received very positive reviews, and won a Juno Award for (Canadian) Alternative Album of the Year. Twin Cinema (2003) was considered another success, being nominated for the inaugural Polaris Award. In 2007, The New Pornographers released fourth album Challengers, to more warm praise from critics.
