The Radiators Run Out Of Steam
Nov, 10 2010
The Radiators, consummate tour masters and pioneers of the improvisation-heavy “jam band” scene for the past 33 years, have announced their currently booked shows will be their last.
Following a handful of dates in late 2010, a February Mardi Gras celebration, and a final headlining appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, The Radiators will call it quits mid-June, 2011.
A quintet from New Orleans, Louisiana, The Radiators successfully combined the traditional musical styles of their native city -- Cajun, Zydeco, and blues -- with classic rock and R&B influences to form a decidedly Southern, energetic variety of swamp-rock they call “fish-head music.”
Formed in 1978, the band incredibly retains all its original members. They’ve released 12 albums and toured relentlessly, becoming popular for their 4,500+ live shows.
A statement titled "Fold up the Big Top" from the band’s official website read: “The guys want to whole-heartedly thank their long time fans for making this ride as amazing as it has been. They truly feel that their fans are the best and most dedicated in the world and have kept their traveling circus alive. Individual band members will announce their plans in the near future.”
