Biography

Edit

New York dance-punk band The Rapture were at the forefront of a short-lived revival in popularity for the style at the start of the new century. After forming in 1998, they released their first proper EP in 2001: Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks won them guarded praise from critics. The critics were much more enthusiastic about debut album Echoes (2003), which was roundly praised and named Album of the Year by popular indie-music webzine Pitchfork. A single, "House Of Jealous Lovers", didn't reach the charts but was very popular in nightclubs, and won a lot more acclaim from music writers.

The Rapture's second album Pieces Of The People We Love (2006) received mixed reviews, and wasn't as popular as Echoes.

The Rapture Plan iPad-Beating Comeback

Feb, 23 2010

The Rapture burst into public consciousness in 2003 with a song that single-handedly prompted a dance-punk revival; “House of Jealous Lovers” was a club hit, acclaimed across the nascent blogosphere, and even reached No.3 on the UK singles chart. Breakthrough album Echoes was also widely praised, but follow-up Pieces Of The People We Love was met with a muted response and the band faded from view. Now the New York group have traveled to Paris to record their comeback LP. "So much of these last 10-15 years in music sounds so completely perfect, so 'inside the computer,'" producer Philippe Zdar told Pitchfork. "When I heard The Rapture's demos, I suggested we avoid that. We agreed to do it like a jazz album: put everyone in the same room and work for a good live feeling.” "We're cruising through the process-- if everything goes well we'd love to have this album out by June or July," multi-instrumentalist Gabe Andruzzi added. "Our new album's gonna be 100 times better than the iPad! With this record you're going to be interfacing with your soul in ways that have never happened before."
