Overview Edit

Goats Head Soup is the 11th studio album by The Rolling Stones released in 1973. It was recorded as the follow-up to 1972's critically acclaimed Exile on Main St. Goats Head Soup was a more polished production than the raw and ragged Exile. It reflected the resurgence of soul-pop and the rise of funk, while maintaining the Stones' distinctive rock sound. It spawned the hit single "Angie", possibly its best-known track, and topped the charts in both the US and the UK.

Goat's Head Soup was originally released Aug 31, 1973 and went to #1 in both the US and the UK. I have found it quite rewarding that over the years this one has gained respect and continues to appear in many rankings of greatest rock albums. Personally, I've always like this one a lot. It's got the usual megahits; Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker), Angie, and Star#$!@% (a hit as a single in Europe and Japan), an incredible jam in Can You Hear The Music, great intro in 100 Years Ago, part 2 of t…

3 stars Goat's P**s Soup
The Stones notorious excess takes it's toll on GHS,and the songs as well as the musicianship suffer as well. The album sounds a bit lazy and winded as well as some songs being sub-par.Only Angie and the underrated Doo Doo Doo(Heartbreaker)stand out as well as Kieth Richard's lament Coming Down Again.Star Star is all hustle and half muscle.Coming after Exile on Main St,it seemed worse than many made it to be,but GHS, though coming out a haze of excess would set the tone for future releases to come.
