Overview Edit

Stripped is a live album by The Rolling Stones released in 1995 during the Voodoo Lounge Tour. The album is notable for being unlike any previous live release by the band in that it features a mix of intimate club recordings and live-in-the-studio reinterpretations of some classic and obscure recordings from their extensive catalogue.

The in-studio sessions were recorded in two parts: from 3–5 March 1995 in Tokyo, Japan and 23–26 July in Lisbon, Portugal while the live club dates are spread out from performances in London, Paris and Amsterdam.

As a bonus for the Compact Disc package, some versions of Stripped came with bonus data tracks viewable only through computer containing rehearsal performances of "Tumbling Dice" and "Shattered" and an alternate performance of "Like a Rolling Stone", with the addition of interviews with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.

Released in November 1995 as their second album with Virgin Records, Stripped (a play on the title of Unplugged) was well-received with its relaxed and natural feel and reached #9 in both the UK and US, going platinum the latter territory. The lead single, a cover of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone", reached #12 in the UK, becoming a rock radio hit in the US, and was followed up by "Wild Horses" in early 1996.

5 stars Stripped To The Bone
Stripped is yet another live album by the Stones, but it is very different from their previous live efforts. They play in an almost unplugged type setting, focusing on their acoustic based songs. Also, their are alot of album cuts from the Let It Bleed to Exile On Main Street period like the masterful "Dead Flowers", the great "Shine A Light" and the bluesy "Love In Vain". They do excellent takes on bigger hits such as the majestic "Wild Horses" and the beautiful "Angie". They dip way back into …

3 stars A nice surprise
The Stones beat the Obligatory Live Album curse by serving up a semi-Unplugged show, recorded before a small but enthusiastic audience and featuring an intriguing selection of songs (never thought I'd hear 'em do Spider And The Fly again, let alone with such, well, sass as they do here). A little heavy on the ballads -- what did we do to deserve both Wild Horses AND Slipping Away on the one disc? -- and the version of Like A Rolling Stone isn't fit to wipe Bob's shoes; but all in all, very playa…
