Biography

Edit

The Ting Tings are the English duo of Katie White and Jules De Martino. Katie mainly handles vocals (guitar, drums) while Jules takes on drums (guitar, vocals). The band formed in Salford, Greater Manchester in 2006 after both Jules and Katie had false starts separately in other bands, an experience which inspired the lyrics to the number one single "That's Not My Name".

They came to prominence playing parties at the Islington Mill in Salford. Quickly gathering in popularity, the gigs became sell-out events, with A&R reps and music industry personalities scouring for tickets.

After releasing their debut double-sided single "That's Not My Name / Great DJ" on a local independent label, they started to tour in 2007 including a a seminal gig on BBC's Introducing Stage at Glastonbury 2007. They continued touring throughout 2008 including the NME Awards Tour and The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Their shout-pop classic "That's Not My Name" reached #1 in the UK charts in May 2008.

The Ting Tings have also achieved some success in the US where their single "Shut Up and Let Me Go" appeared on an iPod TV ad. This helped them break into the Billboard Hot 100 and their popularity has continued to gather pace since then.

The singles "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "We Started Nothing" featured on the hit US show Gossip Girl.
