The Twilight Sad are four young men from near Glasgow, Scotland, who achieved cult success in the United States before anyone had heard of them in their homeland. After playing just two experimental gigs over two years in Glasgow, the band retreated to rehearsal rooms and the studio to record a five-song EP. On the strength of that they were signed to FatCat records, who released the EP in America and flew them across the pond for a small venues tour. As the UK remained oblivious to their emergence, the band prepared a debut LP: Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters.
The band's worldwide reputation was boosted in 2007 when that debut was greeted by excellent reviews on web-based music magazines such as Pitchfork, Stylus and Drowned In Sound. Though the band deny it, the album seems to reflect themes of teenage angst and rebellion, juxtaposing quiet, calm periods with noisy guitar spreads and passionately sung/shouted vocals.
The Twilight Sad continued to tour incessantly in 2007, and even earned support slots with established bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, Idlewild, and Snow Patrol at the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London. Despite being busy touring Europe and America, the band say they are already working on their second album.
