The Used

Jeph Howard (bass, backing vocals) and Branden Steineckert (drums) formed Strange Itch in Utah in 1994, but changed their name to The Used in 2001 after several line-up changes. Howard and Steineckert added Bert McCracken (vocals, piano) and Quinn Allman (Guitar) to complete their line-up and began sending demos out. Record producer and Goldfinger frontman John Feldman liked what he heard of The Used and helped them sign to Reprise Records. The Used released their self-titled debut in 2002 and followed it up in 2004 with In Love and Death.

In the summer of 2006 the band threw out founding member and drummer Steineckert without public explanation and replaced him with former New Transit Direction drummer Dan Whitesides. Steineckert is now with punk band Rancid. After the change the band headed back into the studio to record their newest album Lies for the Liars, released in late 2007 to warm critical praise and rapid sales. Also in 2007 it was announced that McCracken would have to undergo surgery to remove a nodule from his left vocal chord, resulting in The Used cancelling all their scheduled summer shows.
