The Vaselines Announce Second Album, 20 Years After First

Jun, 13 2010

An obscure Scottish indie band who were catapulted to fame by Kurt Cobain's endorsement have announced their comeback album, twenty years after their first and only album. The Vaselines only released one album and a handful of singles before splitting up in 1989, having failed to make much of an impression on the record-buying public. But Nirvana frontman Cobain was a huge fan, and he chose three of their nineteen songs to cover: "Son Of A Gun" and "Molly's Lips" on Incesticide and "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam" on MTV Unplugged. This encouraged millions of fans to listen to more of the Vaselines, and their cult status was born. Now Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee -- after whom Cobain named his daughter, Frances Bean -- are reuniting for a second album. Sex With An X will be released by Sub Pop on September 14, and the first single -- "I Hate The 80s" -- is available to download from their official website now.
