Overview Edit

Catch a Fire is the major-label-debut album for Jamaican reggae band The Wailers, released on Island Records in 1973. The album established the band as international superstars. Leader Bob Marley in particular became world-famous. The socially aware lyrics and militant tone surprised many listeners, but others were attracted to songwriters Marley and Peter Tosh's confrontational subjects and optimistic view of a future free from oppression.

Catch a Fire peaked at #171 and #51 on Billboard's (North America) Pop Albums and Black Albums charts respectively. It is number 123 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, the second highest placement of the five Bob Marley albums on the list.

And these two albums were also the last two that the original Wailing Wailers (Marley, Tosh, Bunny) made together.

A blend of new and old (such familiar tracks as "Concrete Jungle," "Slave Driver," "400 Years," "Stop that Train" from "Catch A Fire," and "Put It On," "Small Axe" and…

2 stars Bad Remaster
What a disappointment. This was my first Bob Marley purchase. The actual music sounds enchanting; but I can't get past the tape hiss and distortion of the base & vocals. This particular cd [EXTRA TRACKS] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] bills itself as being "The definitive remasters". This reissue was supervised by Bill Levenson and Maxine Stowe. Bill and Maxine should be ashamed of themselves. With digital technology the tape hiss and base & vocal distortion could …
