Biography

Edit

English psychedelic pop band The Zombies are better known in the US, where they enjoyed three Top 5 hits in the 60s: "She's Not There" (1964) reached No.2 (and was their biggest British hit peaking at No.12); "Tell Her No" (1965) peaked at No.6 in America; and "Time Of The Season" (1969) hit No.3. Because of this trans-atlantic success, the band were known as part of the 'British Invasion', along with bands such as The Beatles and The Animals. Their most famous album is Odessey and Oracle (1968), which is often regarded as one of the greatest pop albums of the era, alongside the likes of Love's Forever Changes and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

Trivia

Edit
  • Part of Odessey and Oracle was recorded at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, the first time the studio would be utilized for a non-EMI release.
  • The Zombies morphed into Argent of "God Gave Rock & Roll to You" and "Hold Your Head Up" fame.
  • "Odyssey" was misspelled by the cover designer of Odessey and Oracle, much to the band's chagrin.
  • The Zombies had already broken up by the release of their second album, Odessey and Oracle, which proved to be an enduring classic of the era. "Time of the Season" became a hit two years after the band's last recording sessions.
