The first hint of Them Crooked Vultures was when Dave Grohl mentioned the supergroup project in a Mojo interview in 2005, but it was to be another 4 years before the busy members found time to release their eponymous debut album.
The credentials of the group members could not be faulted: Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme were already huge stars in their own right as a result of their impressive track record with several well-loved rock bands. But where history shows that supergroups often fail to live up to the promise of their parts, the hype and reviews of Them Crooked Vultures mostly appeared to buck the trend. The 2009 release of Them Crooked Vultures enjoyed largely favorable reviews and earned its place near the top of many charts across the world.
