Thom Yorke Contributes Silence To Charity Single
Oct, 20 2010
Radiohead singer Thom Yorke is known for his distinctive voice, including a keen falsetto, but he's refusing to lend it to the latest charity single he's supporting. Why? Because "2 Minute Silence" is just as it says: a single with no sound.
The single is being released on November 7, when British troops of past wars are traditionally remembered. Director General of the Royal British Legion, Chris Simpkins, said “Rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognize the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance.”
Other artists who won't be contributing anything to the single include Roxy Music star Bryan Ferry and hip producer Mark Ronson. All that the three musicians are contributing is their names, which encourages websites which otherwise have no link to the charity to publicize the event. And it works!
