In 1988, Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut album created its own mini "revolution" on the radio airwaves. Here was a singer-songwriter performing intelligent, confessional, and heartfelt acoustic songs that appealed to mainstream radio stations. Singles such as "Fast Car", "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution" and "Baby Can I Hold You" were played constantly on the airwaves, yet the arrangements were so simple and timeless that they still resonate today. Though follow-up albums couldn't match the sales of that first effort, 1995's New Beginning was certified five-times platinum in the US and included her biggest-selling single "Give Me One Reason". Chapman has stayed true to her artistic vision and continues to perform as a solo artist.
