Train is an American rock band formed in 1994. The current members are Patrick Monahan, Scott Underwood, Jimmy Stafford, Brandon Bush and Johnny Colt.
Although they had tried, and failed, to win a recording contract in 1996, they established a following by gigging, most notably with Barenaked Ladies and Counting Crows. As a result of having no record deal at the time they self released Train in 1998. Columbia Records liked what they heard and signed them, a decision which was vindicated by the ensuing success of the singles "Free" and "Meet Virginia".
The massive single "Drops of Jupiter" preceded their second album release and ensured the success of the album of the same name. It reached the top ten in the album charts of both America and the UK.
Their third album was My Private Nation (2003) and featured further hit singles including "Calling All Angels" and "When I Look To The Sky". A further single "Ordinary" was featured in the Spiderman 2 movie, and in the Heroes series. Their fourth album For Me, It's You (2006) did not achieve the same success as its predecessors and during that year the band took a break from recording and touring.
Recording for the next Train album has had to wait while Monahan released his solo album Last of Seven (2007).
