Miami born Trick Daddy began his career as Trick Daddy Dollars, and after a few releases, he got a breakthrough with ex-2 Live Crew member Luke, when he performed on "Scarred" from the Uncle Luke album. The track, which was a hit on the Miami scene, brought Trick Daddy to the attention of Slip-N-Slide Records boss Ted Lucas. Lucas signed him up, and his debut album Based on a True Story was released in 1997. The album's release, during the emergence of the Southern rap scene, served as a building block for what was to come. The follow-up, www.thug.com, made his name outside Miami when "Nann Nigga", a collaboration with Trina, received heavy air-play and pushed the album to No.30 on the Billboard 200. He has built on this success with subsequent releases, a mix of gold and platinum-selling albums.
