Biography

Edit

DJ, producer and remixer Armand Van Helden was born in Boston in 1970. Van Helden began his music career as a DJ in Boston, and then went to work for X-Mix, a production company. He released his first remix, "Stay On My Mind" by Deep Creed in 1991. His first dance chart top 10 was "Witch Doktor", which led to requests from other established artists including New Order and Faithless to provide mixes for them.

His big break came with his mix of "Professional Widow" by Tori Amos. The track's appeal extended outwith dance circles and was a huge boost for both Amos and Van Helden. He has had hits with own work, most notably "U Don't Know Me". The single was released in 1999 and went to No.1 in the UK singles chart. Van Helden's mix of "Spin Spin Sugar" by the Sneaker Pimps is credited with kickstarting the speed garage movement in the UK.
