Finally, Van is back to doing what he does best. Easily his best CD in a decade, from the opening melody of "Stranded" through to "Carry On Regardless," Morrison is more in his own skin than he has been for years. 3 stars More Lion, Please
The album's highlights are "The Lion this Time", "Just Like Greta Garbo", and "Evening Train", all of which are poetic and bluesy in the way only Mr. Morrison can be. There's not really much to complain about elsewhere, but it's a bad sign that Van Morrison is being compared to Chamomile tea (see Amazon review above). Back around the time of Them, Astral Weeks, and St. Dominic's Preview he was more like strong coffee served black.
