All Aboard for the Weezer Cruise
Jul, 12 2011
Following in the footsteps of bands with cruises and/or their own music festivals, Weezer has just announced a four-night cruise setting sail from Miami to the Mexican island of Cozumel, January 19 -23, 2012.
Cabins on the 2,700 capacity ship start at $799 for double cabins plus taxes and port fees. The cruise is inclusive and the price of admission includes two Weezer shows (indoor and outdoor), a photo with the band, and Q&A session, food and lodging, and admission to other acts on board.
These include landlubbers Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Gene Ween and Dave Dreiwitz of Ween, The Antlers, Yuck, Free Energy, Boom Bip, Lou Barlow, Keepaway, Ozma, The Nervous Wreckords, Sleeper Agent, and the more appropriately themed Wavves and Yacht Rock Review.

I guess it is pretty safe to assume James Burns, the Seattle man we told you about who was trying to raise $10M to convince Weezer to disband won’t be on board.

Take The Money And Run, Weezer
Oct, 7 2010
Most of us can’t put a price on the promise of new material from our favorite artist, but Seattle resident James Burns is hoping that $10 million is enough to convince alt-rockers Weezer to completely disband.
Burns’ manifesto was posted on The Stranger’s music and arts blog, Line Out. “I have never been a fan of [Weezer]. I think that they are pretty much horrible... This is about the Weezer fans. Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since Pinkerton,” and what happens? Another pile of c*** like 'Beverly Hills' or 'I’m Your Daddy'. This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now.”
Weezer fans united in defense of their indie idols, yet in a subsequent interview with Line Out, Burns expanded, “This is a roundabout effort to figure out why the media is still interested in this band, despite them not releasing a decent album in over a decade.” But it’s the subjective nature of this campaign rallying both fans and haters: who is qualified to quantify What Is Good?
Individuals may donate to the cause (or comment) at ThePoint, incrementally funding Weezer’s unlikely retirement. The campaign got some good-natured backing from Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson, who tweeted "If they can make it to 20 [million], we'll do the 'deluxe breakup!'"

Weezer Make Hurley A Cover Star
Aug, 10 2010
Last week Weezer announced they were signing to Epitaph, an independent label after 16 years on the major-owned Geffen, to release their new album Hurley. The Onion’s AV Club joked at the time that the album cover could just be a picture of the Lost character of the same name, played by Jorge Garcia – and they were actually right.
"I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia," singer Rivers Cuomo told Spinner, "it just had this amazing vibe. We didn't want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as 'the Hurley record' even if [we] left it without that title, so we just called it 'Hurley.' No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face."
Weezer’s last album, Raditude, featured a much-discussed cover of a dog in mid-flight across a living room, and this cover is likely to provoke a similar mix of amusement and snark. But Raditude was met with poor reviews and disappointing sales, so the band will be hoping that this kooky cover choice does not overshadow the music within.

Weezer Wants A World Cup Win
Jun, 15 2010
Well known soccer fanatic Rivers Cuomo has written and released a new song in support of the USA Men's National Team competing in the World Cup in South Africa.
"Represent" is typical Weezer power-pop, and has been released with a video featuring highlights from the team's qualification campaign. "You don't wanna lie, steal or cheat your way to the top," Cuomo sings in the chorus, extolling the virtues of fair play. "It matters what your people think, you represent your family," he expands, before shifting the focus away from ethics towards glory: "but that's just one more reason to see that it matters whether you win or lose."
Meanwhile, Group C rivals England are being encouraged by the No.1 song in the UK, a Dizzee Rascal collaboration with comedian James Corden called "Shout For England."

Weezer

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has been talking about the band’s upcoming seventh album Raditude. In an entertaining interview with Pitchfork, Cuomo talked about “Can’t Stop Partying,” the album track which features a guest-spot from prolific guest-spot rapper Lil Wayne. “It might be my favorite track on the album,” Cuomo said. ”It was an epic process coming up with it between me, [co-writer] Jermaine Dupri, and [producer] Polow Da Don-- and then Lil Wayne topped it off with this rap from the edge of the grave… He sounds like he's totally insane.”
If a Weezer-Weezy collab seems a bit left-field, Cuomo credits the band’s new-found adventurousness to Garbage singer Shirley Manson. “[Shirley] came over one day and said she was calling all her favorite artists and writing songs with them for her solo album. It just seemed like such an amazingly cool and scary and fun idea that I wanted to start trying it myself.” Next on his list are Brian Wilson, Karen O and Pete Townshend, but those partnerships will have to wait until the next album.
