The Lion and the Witch is a live EP by American rock band Weezer. Recorded in Japan in the Spring of 2002 while promoting Maladroit, released on September 24, 2002, exactly six years after the release of Pinkerton. It was distributed as a limited edition release in independently owned music stores with only 25,000 copies having been made.Like Maladroit the marketing of this EP caused a rift with Weezer's record label Geffen Records. The band wanted an eight-song EP with a unique packaging that wouldn't involve crystal cases. Geffen told the band that the packaging idea was too expensive and the number of songs on the EP needed to be reduced from eight songs to six as to not upset the other retailers who wouldn't be getting the disc. The artwork and packaging stuck but the disc's length was reduced to six songs including a "hidden track." This hidden track was an instrumental track titled "Polynesia" that opens the disc.
The lion and the witch is a great mixture of songs put on a CD.Some of the songs that were performed live had not been performed for a while. Such as El Scorcho, Falling for you, and Holiday. What makes these live songs more intresting is the fact Scott Shriner had never performed these songs live before,The songs are 1.polynesia/Dope nose 2.Island in the sun 3.falling for you 4.Death and destruction 5. el scorcho 6.Holiday. this CD is essential for the big weezer fan.

For hardcore fans only
As much as I love Weezer and wanted to like this album, I have to say this CD is lacking in quality. While it is always fun for me to listen to Weezer's live songs it may not be as fun for the casual listener when they forget the words to amazing songs like El Scorcho. The CD cover is cute as hell, though. Inside you can also find comments by Japanese fans in their best attempted English. That to me was cool enough to justify the price I paid for this CD.
