Overview Edit

An Electric Storm is the debut album by electronic music group White Noise. The band recorded the first two tracks with the intention of producing a single only, but were then persuaded by Chris Blackwell of Island Records to create an entire album. At this point the group set up the Kaleidophon Studio in a flat in Camden Town, London, and spent a year creating the next four tracks. The last track was put together in one day when Island demanded the completion of the album.

This album remains popular over 40 years after it was recorded, and many electronic musicians cite it as an influence.

Delia Derbyshire has become a major cult hero after her death and many of her recordings have been released posthumously.

A brief extract from the track "The Black Mass: An Electric Storm in Hell" can be heard in the Hammer Film Productions film Dracula AD 1972.

This is a legendary album in the eyes of the small group of people that have heard it. It was the brainchild of David Voorhaus, a classically trained bassist who dabbled in electronics. He made his own synthesizers (at that time they didn't have keyboards attached), and along with a couple of part-time members whose full time jobs were with the BBC Radiophonics Workshop they created this from laboriosly splicing pieces of tape together.

It's a very unique album that often falters at the songwrit…

1 stars An old hippy remembers................... Just
I remember this obviously as a vinyl recording from the times when myself and friends used to go to each others houses to listen to this and other "trippy" music. I recall that we were all pretty freaked out by this although the usual chemically induced paranoia was mostly to blame. That being said, it was undoubtedly one of the most influential records that we listened to as it had the effect of breaking down the barriers (for us) of what we all accepted as the musical "norm". Like it or dislik…
