White Zombie was named after a 1932 horror flick and it's easy to see the influence in their music and image. Their driving, heavy music is redolent with satanic and horror imagery.
The band was formed in 1985 by Rob Zombie and their first release was the EP Gods on Voodoo Moon, though it's fair to say not many were sold - the band still own 200 of the 300 pressed. After two more similarly successful EPs, White Zombie released their first full length album Soul-Crusher in 1987.
In 1988 they signed to Caroline Records and re-released Soul-Crusher, then, in 1989 they released their second album Make Them Die Slowly, moving towards a more metal sound.
1992's La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol.1 was the double platinum album which broke them. They toured extensively with this album and their fanbase grew considerably, not least of all when they were championed by Beavis and Butt-head. Astro Creep:2000, released in 1995 was as successful and they released Supersexy Swingin' Sounds, an album of remixes in 1996.
White Zombie disbanded in 1998, after the success of lead singer and founder member Rob Zombie's solo career upon the release of his Hellbilly Deluxe album.
