Overview Edit

Show Your Bones is the second full-length album by new New York indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It was released on March 27, 2006 (March 28, 2006 in North America) and nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award for "Best Alternative Music Album".

The album is more subdued in tone from previous records, especially the caustic noise of their self-titled debut EP. Producer Squeak E. Clean adds subtle layers of keyboards, sirens, bells, handclaps; five of the 11 songs utilize acoustic guitar, all prominently.

It was originally stated that the album was to be a concept album about the lead singer Karen O's cat entitled Coco Beware, but this turned out to be untrue. The cat does exist, but belongs to a friend of Karen's.

In December 2006, the album was named the second best album of the year by NME magazine, as well as "Cheated Hearts" being voted the 10th best song. Rolling Stone magazine named it the 44th best album of 2006, while Spin magazine ranked it number 31 on their 40 best albums of 2006.

In 2009, Rhapsody (online music service) ranked it #10 on the "Alt/Indie’s Best Albums of the Decade" list.

Following its release, the album debuted at number 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200, with about 56,000 copies sold in its first week.

In an interview with Blender magazine, the band says during the writing and recording that they had almost broke up, calling that time one of their "darkest" moments.

5 stars Solid sophomore effort
First, I'd like to thank God or whichever other-worldly being gave us Karen O and all her crazy amazing antics.

Show Your Bones is hardly Fever To Tell, but that's not a bad thing at all. On their 2nd release the YYY's sound a little tamed down, more mature, and slightly more focused.

There's something for everyone to like here. Fans of their debut album will feel right at home with tracks like "Cheated Hearts" (which is almost like a more subtle Y Control) then there's the extremely catchy fi…

2 stars Hmmmm
Well, this album was surely interesting. I am a huge fan of the avant-garde, and since these guys had the avant- art-punk label, i thought that these guys would be great. I am really disappointed. If any of you guys have been following popular music lately, bands try to fuse some odd dinstinct little things with their largely bland uninteresting, i-am-the-same-as-everyone-else type rock. And the yeah yeah yeahs are no different. sure they use some short dissonant parts, but most of this album so…
