Biography

Edit

Young Jeezy had to release two albums independently before winning a deal: after the second one, Come Shop Wit' Me (2003), managed to sell 50,000 copies, he finally earned a contract with Def Jam. Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 (2005) was his mainstream debut, and it sold almost two million records in America thanks to MTV coverage for the six released singles. The Inspiration (2006), boosted by lead single "I Luv It", has been certified platinum. In May 2007, the Young Jeezy-formed trio UDA released a mixtape called Cold Summer: The Authorized Mixtape, which hit No.4 in the pop charts.

Young Jeezy features as a playable character in the Def Jam: Icon video game.

Young Jeezy

Sep, 11 2008

Southern rapper Young Jeezy has scored his second No.1 album, with The Recession hitting the top of the Hot 200 after selling 256,000 copies in its debut week. His previous solo full-length, The Information (2006) also topped the charts, but it sold almost 100,000 more in its first week. That shortfall won't be appreciated by Jeezy, real name Jay Jenkins, who makes it perfectly clear money is his main motivation. In these financially difficult times, some people need to choose between gas, rent and food, so it's no surprise if CDs are near the bottom of the shopping list. Then again, a No.1 is a No.1, whatever the sales total. With The Game's L.A.X. falling 63% in sales from second to third, and Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone falling from first to fifth with a 69% drop, the recession is hurting others more than it's hurting Jeezy.
