Zero 7 is a downtempo music duo formed in the late 90s by sound engineers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. Their formation was well-timed as they were able to capitalise on the contemporary success of similar acts Air and Royksopp.
Their initial success was formed when they remixed a version of Radiohead's "Climbing Up the Walls" which found its way onto the B-side of the single "Karma Police". After other remix efforts they finally recorded two EPs of original material, EP1 and EP2. A debut album Simple Things (2001) soon followed.
The album was well received, attracting a Mercury Music Prize nomination. They toured the album with the help of the many musicians who had helped them to record it. Further albums followed, including When It Falls (2004) and The Garden (2006). Many of the tracks of lush, relaxed electronica soon found their way onto television programs such as CSI, Roswell and Sex and the City, as well as commercials and chill-out compilation CDs. Zero 7 have collaborated with many notable musicians including José González and Sia Furler.
In 2007 Binns and Hardaker undertook a new instrumental project, a band they called Ingrid Eto.
