The Endgame For Megadeth?
The clue’s in the name folks. When Megadeth released their latest album and called it Endgame it merely strengthened the rumors about the dissolution of one of thrash metal’s biggest bands. Frontman Dave Mustaine has been making thinly veiled comments about calling it a day for some time, but now he’s made his most bold statement so far. In dialog with his fans on the Megadeth forums, he cited ongoing problems with record label Roadrunner and continuing health problems which have seen him struggle to cope with the rigors of performance. However, aficionados of the genre and the band will be pleased to note that he confirmed his commitment to making it work in the short term, adding wearily "If I'm meant to suffer another blow to my ego, my pride, my legacy and so on, in order to be a better person and closer to God - then I will soldier on and complete my time with grace and honor." Given that many fans were devastated to hear Metallica’s Kirk Hammett’s recent comments that a thrash reunion featuring the Big Four (Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer) was increasingly unlikely, this additional news must feel like the endgame has been played in full.
