by Ed @ SoundUnwound 29 January 2010Adam Lambert’s risqué performance at the AMAs drew a lot of complaints, but it also set a lot of pulses racing, and it is for those adamant Adam followers that the latest charity auction was conceived. After performing “Strut” on Ellen DeGeneres’ special birthday show, the American Idol runner-up revealed that he was planning to donate some very personal items for Ellen’s Haiti Earthquake Relief initiative. “I wore my special Ellen underwear,” he told DeGeneres, “they might be a little sweaty, but these are up for auction as well.” Contrary to his comments, the underpants for sale are actually unworn, but this fact hasn’t lessened their appeal: the Ellen-logoed underpants, signed by Adam, are on sale on eBay and even with days to go, the bidding is furious. With pretty much every pop star contributing to the Haiti fundraising efforts recently by donating whatever skills they feel will raise most cash, Lambert’s philanthropic method is unconventional, but looks set for success.
PermalinkPerformances Overshadow Awards At AMA Show
by Ed @ SoundUnwound 23 November 2009As seems to be the case increasingly often these days, the awards handed out at an awards show seem to be less important than the live performances of the night itself. If American Music Awards producers were concerned pre-show about the potential of Eminem dropping some controversial lines, they needn't have worried; but American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert did his best to shock and surprise during his performance of "For Your Entertainment." He made out with his startled male keyboard player and pushed another male dancer's face towards his crotch, both moves which were deemed unrepeatable after the East Coast broadcast. Lambert has recently received criticism for apparently trying to play it safe with his image by minimizing his sexuality, but there was no playing safe onstage on Sunday. Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Lady GaGa were also among the standout performers; and did we mention that Taylor Swift won five awards, including the most coveted title of Artist of the Year? Michael Jackson won four posthumous prizes, while Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas both won twice.

by Ed @ SoundUnwound 26 May 2009When Adam Lambert did not win American Idol was met with surprise in certain quarters, but it would seem that second place has been good enough to kick start his career. Naturally, a debut single is already available and this will be followed by a solo album which is scheduled for release during 2009. There's room for hope regarding his his plans to work with Slash. But most exciting of all is news of discussions between the starry eyed Lambert and Brian May of Queen following his performance with the band during the American Idol finale. Though rumors of Lambert joining the band have been dismissed as ‘premature’ by the curly haired guitarist, sweet words of praise followed, “[drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.” Queen, most famous during the lifetime of singer Freddie Mercury, have recently parted ways with Paul Rodgers who has worked with them as Queen + Paul Rogers since 2004, so the iconic band are clearly in the market for a new singer; let’s see what happens.
